Our History
Dreamplex’s efforts to establish adaptive sports opportunities began in 2019 with the goal of offering track and field opportunities through clinics open to all children.
In 2020, a small group of physically disabled children participated; however, Dreamplex only had one track and field chair, which was far too large for the kids to use effectively. Early on, children “raced” in their own personal wheelchairs and participated in other field events through Dreamplex’s clinic.
Since 2020, Dreamplex has offered a track and field event annually in hopes of engaging more children interested in the sport. The first official adaptive track and field event was held in October 2022. The organization partnered with CAF and other passionate individuals knowledgeable in the sport, including Daniel Romanchuk and Jimmy Cuevas.
Both Romanchuk and Cuevas have expressed interest in being involved in future opportunities. Jimmy Cuevas, who previously led track and field initiatives in the Northeast, has taken on a leadership role to help train current athletes who hope to compete while also growing the sport to allow more athletes to participate and compete.
Is Para Sports Right For My Family?
For beginners to seasoned veterans: Learn, train, and compete as we push ourselves together in a supportive and fun team atmosphere! Recreational and competitive options are available.
Open to all children and adults ages 5+ with physical impairments. Practices are held at the Orlando Health – National Training Center track in Clermont, FL.
Unlike other sports, track and field equipment—especially racing chairs—requires custom adjustments for each child before they can adapt and grow in the sport. Racing chairs are more complex to operate, so before children can learn to race, they must first fit comfortably into a chair that matches their unique physical disabilities and limitations.
We have frame runners designed for athletes who can walk with support, including but not limited to those with cerebral palsy and ambulatory spina bifida.
We aim to grow our supply of equipment, including racing chairs and field implements, so that a more diverse group of children and adults can participate in and compete in this sport.
